The Modern High Street

Just wondering what members views are on the state of the once noble High Street? What is your own High Street like and what is it missing?

the main problem with the high street is that the chain stores have pandered to the fashion sense of overpaid footballers/pop stars that have no sense of style let alone any idea of the meaning of it and the target consumer has grown up watching 24hr television and looking at pictures in magazines of these "celebrities"? most of which have little talent or any sense of reality as role models, these are perceived as succesful hence stylish by the target consumer, given this some of these "stars" cant think of names at the moment have had moments of style, but the clothes they wear are so out of reach of Joe Public that the style is watered down and made so cheaply/badly in the far east that it never quite looks the same only ever similar.
i bet our elders were saying the same a while ago, the net has just made it easier for people to share opinions.

I had a walk down my local High Street yesterday and although it has it's fair share of independent shops, it's all a bit cheap and cheerful. The only place worth looking for clothes locally is TK Max and that means going to the shopping centre which is chain store central.
